Vision Afrika Europe

What we do

Vision Afrika Europe, based in the Netherlands, contributes to the maintenance, development and improvement of Vision Afrika Primary School in Kayamandi and an after-school programme in Vlottenburg. The Vlottenburg after-school programme provides a safe, nurturing place for local learners to go after school. Here, learners can receive support, guidance and help with their homework from staff and can engage in fun activities.

Vision Afrika Europe was established by Emma Berkhout following her return home to the Netherlands after volunteering at Vision Afrika in Kayamandi for two years. Back home, Emma remained deeply involved with the South African organisation and created a network of Vision Afrika Europe members inspired by her stories and experiences in South Africa.

The organisation raises funds by attracting members and individual donors whose contributions help support the running of Vision Afrika Primary School and Vlottenburg after-school programme. Occasionally, Vision Afrika Europe organises fundraising events, while keeping in close contact with the South African organisation. We provide our members with regular updates on projects and how their money is spent.

The board of Vision Afrika Europe consists of Daan van Noord (president and treasurer) and Benthe van de Wetering (secretary). The board members are involved on a voluntary basis. Emma Berkhout is involved with Vision Afrika Europe as a special committee member and our South Africa liaison, and provides the organisation regularly with information and updates regarding the South African organisation.
