For the second year running, Vision AfriKa has taken on a new class of Grade 8 learners from the Kayamandi township in Stellenbosch in a bid to help them achieve their full potential.
Some 40 students have joined the educational development NGO’s programme this year, following a visit by three facilitators to Makupla and Kayamandi High Schools at the start of term.
The facilitators handed out fliers inviting the learners to attend a presentation on what the programme entailed and the likely benefits in both personal and academic terms.
A huge 265 students in total came to the presentation, of which about half were already aware of Vision AfriKa and its work. As a result, rather than make a formal presentation themselves, the facilitators encouraged those who had some knowledge of the organisation to share their insights with others.
Many had family who had taken part in the NGO’s educational programme in the past and, after seeing the benefits, were keen to get involved themselves.
