Vision AfriKa held the first of a proposed series of termly parents meetings at the start of February in order to discuss learners’ progress.
It was also the first time that parents of the new intake of Grade 8 learners had had an opportunity to meet the educational development NGO’s personnel following the selection process last month.
The staff presented the assembled group with individual 2015 progress reports for each student year and also discussed concerns. A key challenge across all year groups was that learners often submitted academic reports late.
But parents promised to take the matter in hand, while also requesting that each Grade be assigned its own individual meeting each term so that they could keep more abreast of what was happening – unless a bigger gathering was deemed necessary to deal with a wider group issue.
It was agreed that this approach would enable parents to get to know staff better and offer them more opportunity to discuss any issues freely.
