Vision AfriKa held a bitter-sweet leaving party for two valued staff members last week at its headquarters in the Ikhaya Trust Centre in Kayamandi.
The event, which took place on the afternoon of Friday 28 March, was intended to say a temporary goodbye to Vision Afrika Vlottenburg’s Grade 10 coordinator, Karen Sylvester, who is going on four month’s maternity leave.
Kayamandi’s Grade 12 coordinator, Mlandeli Dingile, is also leaving on a more permanent basis to move to pastures new.
Operations manager Gerrit Laning said of the departures: “Karen and Mlandeli will both be missed for their valuable contributions to the Vison AfriKa programme, but we wish them all the best for the future.”
The party, which had been kept a closely guarded secret and was pitched as a formal meeting, opened with a number of farewell speeches, followed by a gift-giving ceremony and plenty of food.
Most importantly of all, it provided everyone with a chance to celebrate new beginnings and to share their feelings of sadness as well as hope for the future.
